Dirk and Puppy Vaughan
Dirk grew up in the suburbs of Denver and moved to Moab in ‘91 to run a family-owned river business operating in Canyonlands National Park. He has spent most of his adult life exploring the rivers and canyons of the Colorado Plateau. He is now semi-retired. Sharing a home with dogs and cats his entire life, Dirk is happiest when he is out somewhere walking with dogs.
Puppy came into his life in 2015 after six nursing puppies and their mother were abandoned on a rural dirt road where he lived. In the many weeks of finding homes for the dogs there was no anticipation of keeping one since two dogs were already in residence. Hoping to not get attached, each pup was called simply Puppy and their Mama. Of course a bond began to form with one of the male pups who had quickly figured out his name was Puppy. When attempts at calling his new friend Henry or Milo caused nothing but confusion (Wait, you’ve been calling me Puppy for a month!) Dirk realized he had been given a Puppy for life. He believes that caring for and sharing the outdoors with animals is one of life’s great privileges and doing so for others is the best job he’s ever had.
Mollie grew up in the Southeast and started visiting Moab in 2012. In her 30+ years of life, she has never lived without dogs in the house! She currently has an 80 lb mutt, and an Irish Wolfhound who is over 100 lbs!!! Often/usually she is hosting a foster pup or two as well. Mollie is lucky to run a guide service in town that welcomes dogs to hang out at the office. In her free time she can be found hiking, climbing, and exploring the surrounding desert.
Or traveling the US with her large dogs along for the adventure.
